I woke up bright and early at 6:15 and got ready. It turned out to be a beautiful day without a rain cloud in sight. It was, however, a tad cold. So I got all my running clothes on and headed out the door. My car said that it was a chilly 52 degrees, but I was nice and prepared. I eventually get up there and walk to the park. After I checked in I saw a fellow blogger and also a member of the Disney Tri Team, Neoprene Wedgie. He was there to cheer on his friend, that according to the sign….is nicknamed BoBo:
While waiting for the stretching to begin, I hung out with Mike and his two friends. They were really nice and it made the time just fly by. It was especially cool with someone from the newspaper came and spoke with us because they wanted to know the story behind BoBo. Turns out, he was training for the Pasadena Marathon….but no go on that…so he came out to do the 5k with his wife. We then heard the announcement about stretching to we headed toward the gazebo.
The boot camp people wanted to make sure that we were all warmed up, so they made us do 40 jumping jacks….except did three for every 1….so it was more like 120… Should I just go back to my car now? I am sure that will work off at least the candied yams….
Nevertheless, we headed to the start line, here is the crowd at the start line:
I started out at a comfortable pace and got to the top of the first hill fairly fast, it was quite a climb and I am glad I took it slow. I hit mile 1 at 12:20, I figured…ok considering that bitch of a hill. I kept going and hit the turn around where the water was, which I needed, and then headed back. This is after the turn:
Now, I forgot my watch, so I had to depend on this guy calling out times. According to him I hit mile two at 27:30….which means I did a 15 min mile 2….but then I came into the finish at 35:00, which means my last mile was like 8 minutes…which is impossible for me. However, I was going down that initial killer hill, so maybe that helped…
I have officially PRed! My previous 5k’s were around 45-50 minutes and this is my first 5k since I have started training for triathlons. So overall I think I did well, room for improvement? OH YA! Like maybe I will remember to take my asthma medicine before I run!
I am feeling good for the tri on Sunday, I think I will do well. I am a little sore today but I will just drink a lot of water and take it easy. I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and that you stuffed your tummies full of good food! I am so thankful that I have the ability to do that because I know there are so many people in this world who can’t.
