My Wednesday Evening

Oh, where to start….

I guess I will start when I got off from work yesterday. I had dropped off my bike on MONDAY at Incycle….MONDAY….for a new chain and a slight tune up. Nothing major, just get things working together again. I called in on TUESDAY to see if it might be ready and I was told that it was scheduled to be done WEDNESDAY. So all day yesterday I was waiting for my phone to ring and a voice on the other end to say “your bike it ready!”, but no go…so after work I went over to the shop and ask for my bike. I was all dressed in my cycling gear so they knew that I would be riding. Well, a person (I will not say who it is because I like said person and it is not their fault) started rushing around, found a red Allez and rushed it over to get worked on. So 3 days they have my bike and it just gathers dust…so I walk over and see the bike they are working on….red Allez…white saddle….gray bar tape…no areobars….uhhhh….not my bike…. So I went over to said person and ask how my bike is coming along, said person says “they are working on it” I say “uhm, they ain’t workin on my bike! That’s not my bike” Said person’s jaw drops to ground, I pick it up then said person gets my bike (it was hanging in their back room). Nothing had been done to it….nadda…zilch….zero….So I tell said person, just let me have it so that I can go on my ride tonight and I will bring it back tomorrow. So this has become quite an ordeal and I have to say that it is quite inconvenient…so thank you Incycle…for nothing :-/

So I get to the Rose Bowl and realize…I don’t have my phone…in my rush to get out the door of my office I left my poor little phone on my desk. So now I feel completely NAKED! Oh well, I think I can manage without it for 12 hours…So we get on our bikes and we head out for the laps. Last nights focus was more about the run and less about the bike. So I did one complete lap with the group, then couldn’t breath, and dropped off. I ended up doing 4 laps, 13 miles in 45 minutes. If I can do 12 miles in 45 minutes for the Iron Girl next weekend, I will be SOOOO HAPPY! I used the aerobars and I like them, I need to make a couple of slight adjustments to get used to them so on Sunday George and I are going to go to the river trail  just to do that, get me cozy on the bars! After my 4 laps I pulled into the parking lot and got my running shoes on. George and I weren’t planning on running that far (15 out, 15 back) but ended up doing and hour run because Allen caught up with us to show us the trails, which was so cool! All in all we ran about 5 miles, George and I were pretty pleased with ourselves because we normally don’t run very much. So the work out was really fun and I am glad we pushed ourselves.

Then this morning, I get in my car and realize I don’t have any gas. So I say to myself….well…I have enough to get me to work and then I can fill up out there. Except, I get to Pasadena and realize that my BANK CARD is in the pocket of my pants that I wore last night! DOH! Fortunately, a kind soul has loaned me $10 so now I can get gas, drive my bike over to Incycle, AGAIN, and get home. Thank you kind soul 🙂

Somewhere I left my head, not sure when or where but I would like it back.

This Saturday I sadly will not be doing the PTC ride, priorities…I have to get my hair done…its been like 5 months! But, I WILL BE GETTING A SCOOTER! That’s right, a SCOOTER! Yesterday I went to the DMV and took my written test for a motorcycle license and I passed and got my permit! You need a motorcycle license to ride a scooter of 150cc or more…which I am getting. It was funny, because after I passed the test I went up to the last window and the lady was surprised I had passed. And I told her “well, I read the book”… and she said that people usually don’t pass and that it is a hard test, mmmm….ok….. Anyway, I am so excited and I am going to get bright red! Now, you may be asking…why a scooter? Because they are cool…and I am too scared to ride a motorcycle and its what they ride in Europe, ok?

I am pretty sure this is the same scooter, but I will have detailed images of myself on the scooter once I get it 🙂

Newbie Monday Post on Tuesday

I was in LA LA land yesterday and totally forgot about my Newbie Monday post!

As I said last week, each Monday my post will be driven to Newbie’s. Some tips and tricks that I have been learning along the way that I feel no one tells you unless you are very aggressive about it. So this weeks topic:

Ok, George actually suggested this topic because he felt so ridiculous for a while there. Let me put it this way….

triathletes/cyclists + underwear = NO

Get used to it…you shouldn’t wear underwear….I can’t tell you how long George and I did not understand this concept and were wearing underwear under our shorts. Basically, you shouldn’t be doing this. Your hinny needs to be in direct contact with the chamois of the shorts. You also want to reduce the amount of friction, the fewer amount of clothes you have down there the better. And the more lubrication, the better….(Chamois cream). No one wants to talk about it, but no one tells anyone….I don’t just go up to someone and say….”hey…you know you shouldn’t wear underwear with your cycling shorts” because admit it….that would be weird. Not to mention that we do a lot of sweating down there while riding. Cotton traps all the moisture while the chamois is made to let it release, therefore making it cleaner down there as well.

So are we clear on that? I don’t want to see any pantie lines out there!

And yes, you will have to wash your shorts after each ride, because that would just be nasty! That also means that you will need to own more than one pair of cycling shorts. Recently I have discovered a really good website for cycling clothing (especially for the ladies) they also have, I just bought a new jersey from there and I am looking forward to getting it very soon!

So I hope this helps….because of my comfort level of not wearing underwear when I ride, I now also don’t wear them when I run and wear my running shorts that have a liner. I am not sure if it is the same concept…but it seems to work 🙂

For your Friday

I present you will silly pictures that I find on cycling websites 🙂

Oh, let me stretch before my ride...just need my Jane Fonda video

Let me ponder lifes worries in these pants that go up to my boobs! And of tube top.

More robot action

You pop that collar girl!

You pop that collar girl!

More than just for cycling....

More than just for cycling....

I will never understand why the women have to look so ridiculous…are there that few women out there in the sport?

Then here is a guys picture…

Totally normal, right???? He isn’t grabbing his crotch, or doing some weird robot pose!

Just saying….I feel a little violated….doesn’t mean its not absolutely hilarious though! The robot ones are hands down my favorite!

Hope you are having a good Friday, I just got my tax return so I am thinking of all the different ways I can spend it!

Tomorrow I am going to do the club ride, heading out to San Dimas and back….should be long but relatively flat. Also, tomorrow is the PTC Disco Bowling night! It should prove to be a very fun and exciting night and I hope to have many photos from it. I have to go to Aardvarks today and pick something out for George and I.

Being Green

So without really trying…I was very green this weekend.

Saturday morning I had to go to a choir rehearsal which was in La Canada which is 5 miles north of Glendale. That is 5 miles of climbing…which proved to me a tad difficult with a backpack full of stuff. Anyway, I have done this climb tons of times before, and made it…just struggled a bit with the backpack. Because I was in a rush, I didn’t drink any coffee and didn’t bring any Advil so I managed to give myself a migraine…yay! Well, once I got home I knocked out and then didn’t wake up till dinner and when I did go to dinner…I carpooled…

Then today, when I went to church, I drove with George in his car and after church we decided to go to the movies. We also decided to ride our bikes to the movies because it is less than 3 miles away. We found out (after asking 3 different people) that we could actually valet our bikes for free at the Americana at Brand in Glendale. So we did that, went to the movies, then rode back. It turned out to be a great way to save a little gas and break a bit of a sweat.

So…my car hasn’t been turned on since Friday…which means that I haven’t driven it all weekend. I happen to think that is really cool and I am glad I did it.

Therefore, I make this proposition to you…(if it is warm enough) is try to go a weekend without ever turning your car on. I think you will find that it is a lot more convenient than you think. When you think about the rides we go on every weekend…we are traveling upwards of 20-30 miles…so what is 3-5 with a backpack?

When I first started this blog I thought it would be cool if I had a name and a little theme going on. After 5 months of thinking about it…I think I finally came up with something! If you haven’t already guessed…

Endurance Turtle

What do you think? Weird? Some others were Turtle Triathlete, Triathlon Turtle…but I went with Endurance Turtle…I like the idea of a turtle because I am slow…and usually just chugging along but I get the job done!

Vote on the box in the upper right corner and tell me if you like it our not, or give me some other suggestions.

It is starting to look better for this Saturday. The storm may not come in till Sunday, and we will get to sneak in on Saturday for the event. It will be cold, but I can deal with the cold. I went out to the Rose Bowl last night and did laps and my temperature gauge on my bike said it was 47 degrees. It took me 35 min to do a little over 9 miles (3 laps). This is really good training for the Pasadena Triathlon because we will do a run around the loop, then 3 laps on the bike and then swim in the pool. So far I have been able to run the loop in 35 minutes and can do the bike in 35 minutes. With transition times and the swim portion, I an predicting a 1:20 finish time. It would be great to get it below or at and hour…but that would require me to be a faster runner! And cyclist! So, we will see…I am really looking forward to doing it and I know it will be a blast.

I will try to run tomorrow if it is not raining. For some weird reason…I know that I am picking up on my training, but it is almost like I am on auto pilot. I never really think much of it and I just go out there and do it. Which I guess would be a good thing. Within the next couple of weeks I am going to fit in a “long” run at the Rose Bowl loop. Not sure how long or how I will do it…but I am starting to think two laps ought to do it. I actually might do that Monday if I feel up to it since I have the day off. Woo Hoo!

P.s. If you are counting…that is a PTO day on Friday and a holiday on Monday = 4 DAY WEEKEND! That’s like a min-vacation!

What did you do over Labor Day weekend?

Well, I will tell you what I did 🙂

Bright and early (6:00AM) on Saturday morning I woke up and loaded up the car with my bike and beach supplies. I then went over to George’s and put his bike in and loaded up the cooler. We left his house at 8:30AM and headed out to Zuma Beach. Once there, George introduced me to his relay teammate for the Malibu Triathlon and also said hi to a couple other Disney Tri Team members.
George and I decided we would go for a nice long ride. So we got all our appropriate bike gear on and headed toward Point Magu. It was about a 15 mile ride one way so we totaled just under 30 miles round trip. It was a fun ride and I thought I was going to die about 3/4 of the way but George got me through it and we managed to get back to the car in one piece. We then packed up the biked in my handy dandy Jeep and pulled out the beach supplies! Because we got there so early, we were able to get a premium, free, parking spot on the PCH so that was nice. We then claimed our parcel of land on the beach and got to relaxing. We ate our prepacked sandwiches and just baked in the sun. My parents EVENTUALLY made it to the beach with the boogie boards so I grabbed mine and headed to the water…George really wasn’t digging the cold water…so I just went in and splashed around for a bit 🙂
That was really it for Saturday’s workout activities…but I wasn’t done yet. I also ran a 10k (little over 6 miles) on Sunday, it was the Nike Human Race. I had never run that far, so it really was a challenge and my heart rate was maxing out! (p.s. just got my new heart rate monitor…post to follow on that) I did the run in about an hour and fifteen minutes, I should have the actual time soon because we wore timing chips. So anyway, that was cool and I am very proud of myself for completing that and not being picked up by the loser bus…
Then finally on Monday, with my muscles all mad at me, George and I went to the gym for a little swimming. I sat in the hot tub for a while just to give my legs some much needed TLC and then I swam laps for a little bit never exceeded zone 2 of my heart rate.
Overall a very busy, but great, weekend. It was also George’s and my 3 year anniversary…yay us! Still going strong and spending the weekend doing exactly what we love to do…being together.
