So, how did I get into triathlons and how did I come up with this blog? I had been wanting to do a triathlon for a while. I got into cycling about a year ago and really enjoy it. I love to swim and have no problem with that, but I am horrible at running. To be honest…I needed some serious training. One day I was looking at the Daily News website and noticed this ad for Team in Training. It said that there would be an information session at the YWCA in Glendale. And I thought…”well, how convenient!” So I dragged my fiancé, George, and we sat in and listened to what they had to say.
Once I listened to them, I decided I would do it. But there was one big challenge…bigger than training for a triathlon, and that was fund raising. As we train we fund raise for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and we have a minimum that we have to meet. So, here I am…trying to train and fund raise, both are a challenge! But it felt good to be doing something that is for a greater cause. Not only am I doing a triathlon that I have been wanting to do, but I am also helping other people. The blog came about because I wanted a way for the people who were interested in donating, or had already donated to keep up on my progress and be able to see the steps I was taking in order to finish my first triathlon. Since then, I have kept up my blog for fun, and to also maybe reach out to some people and show that being healthy isn’t that hard and fitness is attainable.
Now one weird thing I have to mention, is that when I was in that informational meeting I just knew I had to do it, some sort of force was telling me that I needed to get involved. Then one Saturday, I was in the car with my mom and we got on the topic of her mother, my grandmother. I always knew she had died of cancer but I asked my mom what was it she died of exactly, and she told me that she had passed away from Lymphoma. So maybe that was my driving force, maybe it was my grandmother telling me I had to help others that suffer from that same cancer.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy my blog, and please feel free to comment!
